Spring Into It!

I don’t know about you, but I am more than ready for spring to arrive. It is the season of sprouting and blooming, which means NOW is the time to clear spaces and take bold steps toward manifesting your dreams. Still stuck in a post-winter rut? Spring clean your home (and your life) in 5 simple steps:

1) De-Clutter

It may seem obvious, but this is THE time of year to do some serious “spring cleaning.” De-clutter your home, wardrobe, office, car, storage unit or any other space in your life where you could be harboring negativity or clutter. Ask yourself “Do I really need this?” and if so, “Why?” Donating used clothes to Goodwill or charity of your choosing can be a great way to send some much-needed positivity back into the Universe.

2) Clean, Clean, CLEAN!

In New York City, dust can collect in the blink of an eye. Dust creates stagnation, and stagnation blocks the positive flow of energy – see where I’m going here? Clean around and under things thoroughly to open up blockages and get the flow of energy moving. A deep clean of your refrigerator and the simple flipping of your mattress can make a world of a difference.

3) Give Your Windows Some Love

Dirty windows can affect our ability to see and communicate with the outside world. Ensure your window frames are in good repair and are able to open and close safely. Avoid toxic artificial window cleaners wherever possible. Instead, combine 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent, and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Shake to blend and spray on your windows. You’ll be amazed at how washing your windows can give you a fresh perspective on life.

4) Incorporate “The Bagua”

“The Bagua” is an energetic map, used to diagnose the energy qualities of a space. Using the map, one can divide any space into nine sections, each with its own corresponding set of influences and energies (chi). By laying The Bagua over a floor plan, one divides the plan into nine areas (guas). Each one of these holds a different energy and relates to a specific area of your life. The Bagua enables you to pinpoint the areas you need (or wish) to work on, and to move forward with knowledge and awareness. Click here to read my earlier blog on this topic.

5) Embrace Wood Energies

In Feng Shui, spring is the season to embrace wood energy. You can do this by introducing new potted plants to refresh the energy of your home, as well as ground the energy of new beginnings. Working from the inside out, increase your intake of lemon and mixed greens. I like to start my mornings with a warm glass of water and lemon juice. Your body will thank you for it! Trade out rich reds and oranges from winter for fresh greens, whites and blues. This can be as simple as an accent pillow or bowls of fruit on your kitchen counter.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful spring season!
