Brooklyn’s ultra-chic “Dumbo” was the place to be last Wednesday October 22 for the second meeting of the Interior Design Society (IDS), New York Chapter. Despite the storm that raged aggressively all day and well into the night, designers from across the city remained un-deterred, as they gathered at the stunning new Metropolitan Home Hardware and Bath (MMH&B) showroom. Our host, Richard Segal, held his premier event in the new headquarters of this exclusive “to the trade” concierge company. What a treat!
The drinks were flowing, the discussion was lively and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. As President of the New York City Chapter, I was thrilled to welcome our members and introduce our Chapter’s Vice President, Byron James, to lead the discussion panel. Panelists featured “The Divas of Design:” Deborah Martin of Deborah Martin Designs, Malene B of Malene B Carpets, Arlene Angard of Arlene Angard Designs, and Keita Turner of KT Design Solutions.
Panelists facilitated a number of insightful and engaging discussions that focused in on:
How to be a successful small business owner in the design industry
How to find clients or customers
Dealing with difficulties and problems
How to tell a client “no.”
How to price properly
The discussion ended with a lively Q&A session that helped address any outstanding questions, comments or concerns. With meetings scheduled once a 6 week cycle, we will be meeting again on December 3 at a yet to be determined location. Look to social media for updates regarding time and venue.
